Meet Jenn! | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Where are you from originally?
Eastchester, New York

What made you choose New Canaan over other towns in the area? How long have you lived in New Canaan?
We chose to live in New Canaan because we loved all that the town had to offer for growing families. We have lived here for 9 years

How many kids do you have and what are their age(s)?
3 children…. Julia: 9, Rocco: 7 and Jameson: 4

What are your favorite things to do with your kids in general or in town?
I love taking my kids to their various sporting events and practices. Right now they are playing basketball and softball. I try to be active with them and encourage them to try different activities. We also go for walks at the Nature Preserve that is down the street from our home.

What are your favorite events or favorite season in New Canaan and why?
The Fall because it represents quintessential New England and the kids love apple and pumpkin picking.

Three things in New Canaan that you can’t live without:
Crossfit Norwalk, the great friends we have met, amazing restaurants

What’s the best way to relax and unwind in New Canaan?
I love unwinding by going for a run at Waveny Park.

What’s your favorite restaurant in town for a family date? Night out with friends? Romantic evening? Why?
We love going to South End for date night and Uncorked for any type of night out. We love that South End offers a fuller dinner menu with more choices and that Uncorked allows us to share small plates with delicious drinks!

What is your favorite kid-friendly recipe?
Paleo banana bread.. my kids do not know the difference between this healthier version

What has been the most difficult age with your children to date? What helped you overcome the challenges at that time?
I would have to say that the infant stage was always the hardest for me. I felt that it was so challenging to parent effectively when i was so sleep deprived.

What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other moms?
My advice would be to enjoy the small moments because in hindsight they may end up being the big moments

What was your career before having children? Are you currently involved in a business venture?
I am a speech language pathologist and recently began working part time again! I also cofounded my own business in January of 2017, SMAK athletics LLC, where my partner Frankie D’Souza and myself run small group fitness classes for individuals with special needs. We are passionate about providing a safe exercise environment for individuals with special needs. We run small group fitness classes at two local gyms. It has been amazing to bridge my love of fitness with my desire to support the special needs community.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
We are holding fitness classes at the new STAR program in New Canaan and are very excited to support this local business.
