Meet Krista! | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Where are you from originally?
Originally from Greenwich, CT.

What made you choose Darien over other towns in the area? How long have you lived in Darien?
My husband, Mike, and I were interested in opening Roost in Darien because we felt the community would really appreciate our concept of good food, fast. We were so excited when the opportunity presented itself to open a spot on the Noroton side of town (1950 Post Road, Darien)

How many kids do you have and what are their age(s)?
We have three girls, Ella (5.5), Josie (2.5) and our newest addition, Clara (3 months)

What are your favorite things to do with your kids in general or in town?
We love to visit with friends and family in the area, shop at Whole Foods, and go to Hands on Pottery when it is too cold to play outside. In the warmer seasons, we love to visit the Darien Nature Center.

What are your favorite events or favorite season in New Canaan or Darien and why?
Summer is our favorite, especially 4th of July. Our daughter, Ella was born on July 3rd so the 4th is always a big celebration for us.

Three things in New Canaan or Darien that you can’t live without:
Roost (J), Whole Foods, Gelatissimo (best Gelato!)

Which are the best spots for beauty and pampering?
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to be pampered or relax lately given our new business and new baby! 🙂

What’s your favorite restaurant in town for a family date? Night out with friends? Romantic evening? Why?
Family date: Bodega – delicious and kid friendly
Night out with friends: Gates – great atmosphere
Romantic evening: Elm – delicious food and intimate setting

What is your favorite kid-friendly recipe?
I’m all about homemade chicken soup. It is the best way to get lots of nutrients into our kiddos’ bellies. I make the stock from scratch and chop the veggies very finely. And the girls love acine de pepe like their great grandma makes every Easter and Thanksgiving.

What are a few of the most recent things you’ve pinned on Pinterest and/or who do like to follow on Instagram?
My most recent pins on Pinterest have been school lunch ideas for our eldest and easy organizing hacks for the home. I love following Stephanie Stellwagen (@stephstell) and looking at her gorgeous pictures. She is a lifestyle blogger that captures incredible shots on her journeys all over the East Coast. And I follow @barre3 to keep me motivated. With our busy schedules, I can only workout at home and Barre3 has been a godsend for the last 6+ years. I’m still working on getting my act together post baby #3.

What has been the most difficult age with your children to date? What helped you overcome the challenges at that time?
We are in the thick of the 2s with our middle child and it has certainly been a challenge. All of our girls have different personalities and require a different approach. I try to take each day at a time and know if a particular day is tough, that tomorrow I can try again. I actually just started reading 1-2-3 Magic and hope to put what I learn into practice soon.

What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other moms? What was the best advice your mom gave you?
Surround yourself with other moms that lift you up. I have incredible mom friends that I might not see that often but are just a text away. Knowing they struggle with the same challenges and share the same parenting triumphs is everything. The best advice my mom ever gave me was ‘you just do what you can.’ I’m an identical twin and our parents didn’t know they were having twins until my mom delivered. She handled it with such grace, and still does as a grandmother of 5. She is my idol.

What was your career before having children?
Since graduating from Lafayette, I’ve always had a career in the Marketing and Communications industry.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I currently work at Deloitte in the Market Development group and will be returning to work in a few months after my maternity leave ends. My side job (besides being a mom) is helping my husband with his businesses and supporting Ada’s Kitchen + Coffee (in Greenwich) and Roost (now in Darien!) where I can. I manage their social media, sponsorships, branding and marketing…among other things. We’re so happy to be in Darien and to be part of this wonderful community.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
We’ve had the support of some really special people that are part of the Darien and New Canaan community, and have helped us immensely since our Roost project started. Their faith in our concept and what we had to offer, gave us the courage to continue to pursue our dreams and open our second store. I’ve never seen my husband happier. Sure, we are SUPER busy, but we’re doing what we love and feeding a community. Doesn’t get any better than that!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…Favorite hobbies? Guilty pleasure?
Favorite hobby: I danced since I was 6 years old and over the last few years (in between babies) I’ve had the chance to perform with my old dancing friends again. It has been surreal and SO much fun!
Inspirations: As a preemie myself, I am inspired by other parents with preemies and believe so strongly in what the March of Dimes is doing to support parents and babies.
