DESCRIPTION: Coding is  quickly becoming the  universal language of the  future. It opens your mind to  new ways of thinking that can  be applied across every facet  of your life. At Codebug students will learn to code in an inspiring and invigorating environment while using the same programming  languages and practices used  by Silicon Valley pros. These courses will be taught by two professional software engineers (Sarah: Software Engineer, former High School Math Teacher, and NCHS alum & McArthur: Director of Engineering at AI startup and seasoned Software Engineer). Codebug offerings this summer include multiple 2-week (half-day) sessions as well as a 1-week (full-day) session teaching middle and high school students to code!

Codebug welcomes students at all experience levels! Whether your child has never written a line of code or has taught themselves to build a website, they will get the attention they need to to push themselves while having a great time. Codebug would especially like to encourage girls to take advantage of this opportunity!

DESCRIPTION: Weekly musical performance put-on-a-show camps. Students rehearse and perform the selected musical show – learning the songs, staging, choreography and present a produced/costumed performance to family and friends in the Conservatory Theatre on their final day.  Camp classes are grouped appropriately by age to help ensure active participation, confidence building and skill learning so that each child will have an enjoyable performance experience.

DESCRIPTION: We’re cooking up delicious eats and sweets all summer long at our Culinary Works Cooking Camp, with Julia’s daughter and assistant, Chef Brooke. Each class will focus on a different fun theme in which a variety of skill sets will be taught. Budding chefs will make recipes that are sure to please. From homemade mac and cheese to skillet chicken, cupcakes to brownies, this class is open to students of all levels of experience. In addition to kitchen fundamentals like basic knife skills, how to follow recipes, measuring, mixing, and kitchen safety, kids will learn how to use an assortment of traditional kitchen tools to cook easy, delicious recipes. The week is capped off with a competitive team trip to the grocery store with a given budget to create their best dish back at the showroom. Each team will have their skills put to the test while they get to show off all they have learned. Each chef will receive their own apron to keep at the end of their session. Additionally, there will be a photo portfolio from the week which will also include a digital recipe booklet.

DESCRIPTION: The Summer Theatre of New Canaan, Connecticut’s premier professional summer theatre offers three separate performance camp programs for middle school students, for high school Students and for students with special needs.
The Jr Company (Middle School) three week afternoon program will present PIPPIN on the theatre’s main stage July 25,26. The High School (intensive) a two week workshop and master classes program teaches multiple acting and performance skills.
DramaRamas program for children with special needs features the children in leading roles assisted as needed by personal acting one on one mentors. All programs taught by professional performers.

DESCRIPTION: The Darien YMCA is once again offering its dynamic gymnastics camp this summer for girls of all gymnastics abilities. Gymnastics camp provides campers with a combination of gymnastics training and traditional day camp experiences. Girls will train in the Y’s 11,000 square foot gymnastics center learning a variety of gymnastics skills and techniques including movement, coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility. Campers will have the opportunity to experience all that a traditional summer camp has to offer including, arts and crafts, making new friends, and playing games. Registration for the 2018 camp season is underway online on the Darien YMCA website or in person. Gymnastics camp runs from 8:30 am – 1:00 pm daily with a break for arts and crafts and lunch. Participants are encouraged to sign up for our Afternoon Navigators program giving campers a full day camp experience. Four two-week sessions of camp are offered. Parents have the option of registering for one or all four sessions.

DESCRIPTION: Children will enjoy art while learning to interact with peers, and sharing and building social skills.  Children learn through a process-focused curriculum, where art is instructed through experience, and through an exploration of techniques, tools and materials based in a multi-media art curriculum. Children will also explore the richness of music and reading. Class length is 2 hours. This is a drop off class. Students may register for more than one Green Moon class per session.  Each class is $60 and students must register for an entire session.

PICASSO’S LUNCH BUNCH: 18mos-4yrs, M-F: 11:30-12:15pm

DESCRIPTION: Children will engage in multimedia arts with time to enjoy a nut-free meal with friends (children will bring their own lunch).  Eating with friends is an invaluable opportunity to broaden experiences with peers. Class length is 1 hour. Students must register for an entire session.

FRIEND & ME: Walkers, TU/W: 4-4:45pm

DESCRIPTION: A special class for caregivers and students – During these introductory classes, instructors encourage children to select and use a limited range of familiar materials, such as brushes, crayons and paper, and a range of new materials, such as liquid water colors, power paint and droppers, with instructor and Friend encouragement. Caregivers must stay with students. Students must register for an entire session.

WHITBY SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Early Childhood Program 18mo – 5yrs: Sessions run weeks of June 24, July 1 (short week), July 8, and July 15. Programs are designed for children 18 months through 5 years. Half day session runs 9:00am-11:45 am

Enrichment Program 6-11yrs: This is not the average run-of-the-mill summer program that uses high school students as instructors and counselors. At Whitby, children ages 6-11 will spend the summer with professional and experienced instructors including high school coaches, former world champions and a Chess GrandMaster. One week sessions run June 24, July 1, July 8, and July 15. Programs are designed for children 6-11 years old. Children will be divided into groups with age-like peers (6-8 years, and 9-11 years)

Half day session: 9:00 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. or 12:15 – 3pm.

Full day session: 9:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
