How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have one daughter Wesleigh, 2.5 years old, one furson Tucker, 7 years old.
What brought you and your family to town (Rowayton)?
Once I became pregnant with my daughter Wesleigh, it quickly became clear we were no longer interested in staying in NYC. My husband and I explored buying in the city, but once we started looking at properties in CT, we knew it would be the best decision for our growing family to head to greener pastures. When we discovered Rowayton, we immediately knew the town would be the perfect fit for us. It was important for us to be near the water and in a walking friendly neighborhood. Truth be told, the first time we came to visit, I felt chills driving through town.
What’s the best part about being part of the community?
There are days I’m truly convinced Rowayton is straight out of a Hallmark movie. The town is incredibly charming, and we’ve met many kind and welcoming families since moving here. I understand why several people who grow up here, end up returning and raising their children in town.
Tell us about your new life & style blog and how you decided to launch it?
I launched Home With The Harrisons as a creative outlet, to document and highlight my favorite home, motherhood and tot-friendly finds. My intention is for the space to be a destination that provides inspirational and attainable sources dedicated to the mom next door, from the mom next door.
What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?
This may sound cliché, but after dinner, we go for a walk to Brendan’s 101 and pick up ice cream. We take our cones over to the dock, watch the boats go by and enjoy the sunset together. It’s the little moments like this I cherish most.
Any local holiday activities that you are looking forward to?
I was very much looking forward to taking Wesleigh on the Essex Steam Train for the North Pole Express, but since Covid-19 began, they decided to postpone operation until 2021. For even more local flavor, we will be attending Light Up Rowayton. Downtown Rowayton is filled with twinkling lights, Brien McMahon’s Holiday Chamber Choir sings and the Rowayton Historical Society opens the model train show which gets the most rave reviews, year after year.
How do you unwind when you need some “me time?”
It depends how much ‘me time’ I have! Lately, my ‘me time’ is after I get my daughter to bed, so I typically curl up on the sofa with Tucker, turn on Schitts Creek, have a cup of Jasmine tea and snack on Lime Tostitos, because life is a healthy balance ☺
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Well, my mother always told me ‘mom knows best’, and now that I’m a mother, I happen to agree.
Lindsey’s Local Favorites:
Grab Coffee: Rowayton Market. It doesn’t get better than walking into town, grabbing a coffee and sitting out back along the water.
Restaurants: For waterside dining we frequent The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood, or for a more casual vibe, Sunset Grille. I’m a big fan of Rincon Taqueria for Mexican, Munay Kitchen for Peruvian, Little Thai Kitchen for Thai and I love the ambience at Tavern at Graybarns for date night (although, my daughter has been a few times!). I could share many wonderful local restaurants which is why I’ve compiled some of my favorites on my local CT guide.
Parks: I’ve highlighted some of my go-to nearby parks on the guide as well, including the playground at Bayley Beach, The Playground at Bruce Park as well as the playground at Meade Park.
Home Goods: As a design lover and someone who is tapped into trade sources, I’ve found CT to be filled with fantastic home décor stores, many of which are local to Fairfield County. You may find some of my favorite sources here.
