Please describe Cura Pilates and the types of classes you offer.
Cura Pilates is a primarily virtual Pilates platform which I founded in the effort to meet my clients in their living rooms to get their strength and confidence up. In addition to private or small group sessions I offer group classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced, although really the beauty of my style of Pilates is that nearly every move can be modified to be made easier or more difficult. It also means I can accommodate limited mobility injuries and focus on getting back to moving more comfortably. This summer for the first time I am offering in person classes at Bayley Beach in Rowayton.

Can you tell us more about your fitness journey and what prompted you to start Cura Pilates?
I grew up dancing and didn’t start Pilates until I was in college but immediately felt the impact in my ballet. After college dance took a backseat to my full time work but I was still taking Pilates classes and added in weight training as well. A family friend was having some knee pain and felt too self conscious to start going to the gym so I offered to show her some low impact Pilates moves. After several months I received a call- my “client” had no pain walking up the stairs for the first time in years. I was so inspired by her progress and I started my certification with the intention of creating a welcoming and open environment for everyone to improve how they move.

How did you come up with the name?
Cura actually came from my alma mater, Fordham University’s, motto for student life: cura personalis or care of the whole person. That is what I want for Cura classes. I strive to make my classes good for the body, mind and spirit. I always want my clients to feel better after class than when they begin.

How long have you run Cura Pilates?
I officially founded Cura July of 2020 so almost three years already- time flies!

What are the benefits?
Physically pilates helps build a strong core, increase mobility and improve the mind body connection. This all helps you to move well and prevent future injuries. One of  my clients has also shared that the 360 breathing techniques have helped her move through times of anxiety with more control which is a wonderful benefit.

Besides the physical benefits, how does the workout enhance your mood?
My classes can be very meditative as I try to keep the movements flowing, similar to the pacing of a yoga class. If you are truly present in class and focusing on the movement, being intentional and visualizing the muscles you’re working, it’s pretty tough to think about life’s other stressors!

What’s your favorite aspect about being part of the community?
I have been inspired by the small businesses that have grown out of this area and how they give back to the community.

How can the community best support your business?
Take classes and spread the word about Cura! I also have done fundraising classes in the past so if you are looking for partners on events I would be happy to be that partner.

Anything to add? Feel free to add whatever you want the readers to know!
My pilates classes are for everyone. There is no room for judgment and it’s all about you taking control to take care of yourself.

Often when you hear Pilates you think- long, lean, flexible. At times that could be intimidating but in reality: Pilates is a low impact form of exercise that focuses on mobility, muscular strength and endurance. Elements that everyone can work to improve! Danielle earned a Kane School Pilates certification which is a rigorous training program combining the classic principles of Pilates with a modern, clinical perspective on the body. The program produces teachers with solid knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and injuries as well as the skills to perceive and improve them.

Kick off your summer Friday’s with a morning boost of pilates. Classes will be designed around the people attending to make sure everyone gets the most out of the session.

You do not need to be a Rowayton resident to join- so spread the word!

Pre-registration is preferred as the class is capped at 20 participants but walk-ups are welcome.

If you can’t make Danielle’s beach classes check out some of her virtual offerings. Classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. If 1:1 is more up your alley Danielle offers private sessions scheduled at a time convenient to you and focused 100% on your goals. Finally, Cura also offers free Community classes the first Sunday of the month. A holdover tradition from the beginning of the pandemic, the Community class ensures everyone has access to exercise and promotes overall wellness- which we think is priceless!
