NEW YOUTH FIELD HOCKEY PROGRAM WELCOMED NEARLY 500 PLAYERS
DARIEN, CT (November 9, 2020) – DJFH closed out a highly successful premiere season with nearly 500 Darien youth players participating in the newly launched youth field hockey program.
Beginning in September, the program welcomed players ranging from 1st through 8th grades for up to eight weeks of clinics and games. The new program marked the first in-town field hockey experience offered to 1st and 2nd graders and it was met with enthusiastic participation. Additionally, DJFH’s debut season offered players in 5th – 8th grades two weekly clinics plus weekly games, providing a robust field hockey experience in spite of challenging times.
“We fully recognize that it takes a leap of faith by parents to entrust their children to an all-new program,” said DJFH Program Director, Wynne Lennon. “Everyone at DJFH is incredibly grateful for the support we received from the Darien community. These past eight weeks allowed us to grow the game amongst our Darien field hockey players and we are excited to build upon this year’s successes in the years to come.”
DJFH’s mission is to offer a fun, positive, inclusive and robust youth field hockey experience which inspires a love of the game, nurtures and cultivates the local talent pool, develops the ‘whole’ athlete and fosters camaraderie across the entire Darien field hockey community. With the help of many qualified coaches and local volunteers, DJFH delivered on this mission throughout the inaugural season.
DJFH is also supported by celebrated Darien High School Varsity Coach Mo Minicus, and Junior Varsity Coach, Kari Johns. Together with Coach Lennon, these acclaimed coaches brought their unwavering energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the game to the buildout of DJFH’s mission and curriculum.
