Filling in the Blanks to host fourth annual golf fundraiser | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Features live and silent auction, ladies’ night out

Filling in the Blanks (FIB), the Fairfield County-based non-profit that fights childhood hunger by providing needy children with meals on the weekend, will host its fourth annual golf outing May 4, 2017 at the GlenArbor Golf Club in Bedford, NY. This year, there will also be a ladies’ night out event, with cocktails starting at 5 p.m.

The event begins at 10:30am. Each golfer will be treated to a gift bag and fun surprises along the course. The day ends with a dinner and auction. Those who don’t wish to hit the course are invited for cocktails beginning at 5 – the perfect excuse for a ladies’ night out. Auction items include: Tickets to see The Ellen Show Live, a Yacht Cruise for 6 and Dinner at Raos.

Founded in 2013 by two Fairfield County residents, FIB strives to remove the obstacle of food insecurity faced by thousands of children by providing each student in its program a bag containing two breakfast items, two lunch items, snacks and fresh fruit every Friday. Children who qualify for the government free or reduced school lunch program are eligible. More than 650 children in Fairfield and Westchester counties are currently served by this program.

“The Filling in the Blanks program has been such a valuable and important program at Stark School. The students who participate in the program not only love the food and look forward to receiving a bag each week but for many, the comfort of knowing that they have something to eat on the weekend is unimaginable,” said Mary Humiski, Social Worker, Stark School, Stamford. “The program has become so popular that other students who have seen the program in action have asked to be part of it also.”

The 2016 golf outing raised more than $300,000 for FIB. These funds allowed the program to add five new schools and one camp program in 2016.

“Childhood hunger is a national problem, and one that must be addressed on a community basis,” said Tina Kramer, co-founder, Filling in the Blanks. “The money we raise through this golf event ensures that we can continue serving the children in our program all year-round, and expand to serve even more.”

Sponsors for the golf outing include Belvedere, Mitchells of Westport, Porsche of Larchmont, Serendipity, StructureTek and Gotham Drywall.
