Grassroots Tennis & Education Hosts Virtual Fundraising | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Event: “Tennis Talks,” with Tracy and Jeff Austin

WHO​: Grassroots Tennis & Education is a non-profit youth development organization whose mission is to build strength of character and a foundation for success through tennis and education.

WHAT​: Grassroots will host a virtual one-hour fundraising event, the second in a series “Tennis Talks,” in which host CK Swett will engage in a lively discussion with sister and brother tennis greats, Tracy and Jeff Austin. 

WHEN​: Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. EST

DETAILS:
The virtual event will be kicked off with a brief introduction and program update from Grassroots’ Executive Director, Betsy McNeil, Senior Director of Tennis, David Kimani, and Director of Education, Kristi Miller. 

Immediately following, CK Swett, Co-founder and Auctioneer of Lot 1 Auctioneers, will host an energetic virtual discussion with two tennis greats, sister and brother, Tracy and Jeff Austin.

Topics will include their observations about tennis and the sports world, their experiences as players and competitors, Tracy’s experience as a commentator and Jeff’s experience as an ATP pro and now NBA talent agent. 

Throughout the evening, attendees will be given the opportunity to submit questions via email, which will be shared with the Austins.

About Tracy Austin

Former World Number One Professional Tennis player and winner of three Grand Slam titles, Austin won the women’s singles titles at the 1979 and 1981 U.S. Open, as well as the mixed doubles title at the Wimbledon Championships in 1980. Since retirement, Austin has worked as a commentator for NBC and the USA Network for the French Open and the US Open.

 

About Jeff Austin

Former top 100 ATP ranked professional tennis, Austin is head of Octagon Sports and Entertainment Agency’s basketball division. He represents Golden State Warriors’ all-star point guard, Stephen Curry, among others.  

 

 

About CK Swett

CK Swett, a California native and Duke University graduate, began his career in the auction world in 2006, and has worked at Christie’s, Phillips and Heritage during the intervening twelve years. In 2016, he founded Lot 1 with former Christie’s colleague, Charles Antin, in order to better address the critical importance of not-for-profit fundraising.

 
ABOUT GRASSROOTS TENNIS & EDUCATION
Grassroots is a youth development nonprofit organization that uses the sport of tennis to engage youth in holistic out-of-school time programming. This free, year-round program combines tennis instruction with leadership development, social-emotional and character development, and college and career readiness support. 

​A chapter of the USTA National Junior Tennis and Learning Network, Grassroots serves more than 100 children each year, ages five to 18 with a relationship-first approach that brings children and their families together with dedicated volunteers and caring staff. Grassroots serves kids where they live – at Cummings Park in Stamford and at the Youth Center and the William Rippe Tennis Center in South Norwalk.
