Inspire Your Child at the Mega Making exhibit at Stepping Stones Museum for Children | New Canaan & Darien Moms
We do our best. We do our best to give our kids creative spaces in our homes. We try not to yell when they write on the walls, rip their toys apart, rough house, and destroy literally every piece of furniture in the house. We try to be understanding of their curious spirits and free nature. We want them to learn through play and imagination. But sometimes…we want them to do it outside our homes!
Stepping Stones Museum for Children offers just that, an incredible space where parents can celebrate their kid’s creativity and let their imaginations run wild. It’s called the Mega Making Exhibit!

Kids can draw, build, invent and SMASH all for the sake of discovery. They will be the future engineers, designers, inventors, artists, teachers, scientists and the ones shaping the world and Stepping Stones is providing an environment to explore their natural curiosities.
Making at its core is the act of creating something. The current “Maker Movement” in the USA is working to inspire students to become creators of learning rather than passive consumers of learning. Mega Making takes a constructivist approach to learning by giving adults, children and students the materials, tools, support and creative freedom while providing an opportunity to build 21st century skills including Flexibility and Adaptability, Initiative and Self-Direction, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving and Creativity and Innovation.
The Mega Making exhibit experience is organized into a four main areas:

  • Art
  • Textile
  • Construction/Woodworking
  • Book Nook/Future Ideas

Using real materials and real tools, young makers can explore a variety of materials, techniques and projects! The Stepping Stones staff members are there to help get your child started, whether it’s working a needle and thread for the first time, practicing using wrenches and screwdrivers, tinkering with batteries and buzzers or picking out the perfect artist medium. The exhibit has something for all ages, but is best suited for children ages 5 and older.
Let your kids take chances, make mistakes, and get MESSY at Stepping Stones Museum for Children!
