Meet Marco Vitiello, a father of two girls who loves sports and the outdoors. He’s been working in the landscaping industry for almost two decades. Although he lives in Orange, Marco spends most of his time in Westport through his job as a horticulturist and sales rep at Hoffman Landscapes. He loves working with Westport families and “improving the environment in which our customers live.” Find out more about Marco and all his favorite spots around town.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have two girls—ages are 15 and 12.
What is your favorite family activity?
We love to be outside! We enjoy long nature hikes, swimming in the pool, camping and LOVE outdoor sports like softball.
Tell us about your role at Hoffman Landscapes…
I am a Sales Rep and Horticulturist. I work closely with my clients to provide landscaping solutions and customized property care packages tailor-made to fit their needs.
Best part about the job?
Aside from getting to spend so much time outdoors, I really enjoy getting to know my clients and being able to improve the environment in which they live.
It seems like landscaping projects have really increased since the pandemic. What are the most popular things clients are doing to their backyards?
We’ve all spent a LOT of time in our own homes over the last year and a half. It’s really made people stop and look at their space through a different lens—both indoor AND outdoor. Our clients have put a major focus on improving their outdoor environment and turning their properties into a safe and comfortable place to gather and relax.
Any words of wisdom?
My dad taught me from a very young age to always work hard but also make sure not to carve out time to spend time with your family and friends. That’s something I carry with me to this day – giving as much time and focus as I can to each of my individual clients, but I also make sure to be there to cheer on my daughters at every softball game!
Favorite band, tv show, and/or book…
I’m a big fan of both Billy Joel and Dave Matthews Band—I don’t think I could choose between them. Admittedly, the commute from Orange to Westport isn’t always ideal so good tunes are very important!
We like to support local businesses. What are your favorite places in Westport and in nearby towns?
Have a date night: My wife and I have had a couple of great date nights at Basso Restaurant & Wine Bar.
Spend time together as a family outdoors / indoors: We love the beaches in Fairfield County – Sherwood Island is a favorite of ours.
Grab coffee: As a family, we get a kick out of Donut Crazy, but when I’m working in the area, I try to seek out local options other than Starbucks or Dunkin. Winfield Street Coffee is one that comes to mind.
