Meet Abby Glover, a local mom who moved here from Austin 11 years ago. As Vice President of Educator’s Ally, she works with private schools nationwide to help with their hiring needs. When it comes to down time, you can find her at the New Canaan Library or heading to an early morning workout. Find out what her family loves about their town, schools, and the New Canaan community.
Tell us about your work…
I am the Vice President of Educator’s Ally, an independent school recruiting firm that partners with private schools across the U.S. on their faculty and leadership hiring.
Tell us about your children…
We have two children, Elly (12) and Charlie (9). Elly is a sixth-grader at St. Luke’s, and Charlie is a fourth-grader at New Canaan Country School. I’m in a unique position through my work at Educator’s Ally in that I get to know the faculty, curriculum, and cultures of various schools in an intimate way. So, when looking for our children, we already had a bit of a head start into those school communities that would best match their personalities and strengths. There is no shortage of amazing and varied schools in the area, but we know that we’ve found the right ones for us.
What attracted you to St. Luke’s School?
We were particularly drawn to St. Luke’s School for their deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as their strengths in innovation (have you seen their designLab?!!). We love the focus on a collaborative, student-centered journey to becoming empathetic, global citizens. We are so proud that our children are both a part of school communities that teach them not what to learn but how to learn.
How long have you lived in New Canaan and what drew you here?
After many years in NYC, my husband, Chris, and I lived in Austin, TX (Hook’em Horns!) before moving to New Canaan 11 years ago. After looking in several towns in Fairfield County, all it took was our real estate agent driving us up Elm Street and through Waveny Park for us to know that New Canaan was the right town for us!
What are your favorite family activities in the area?
One of our favorite town activities is the Holiday Stroll and gingerbread decorating for the store windows in December. But Waveny Fourth of July is a close second!
Name one thing about you that would surprise people.
I’m an unapologetic Bravo aficionado. If you ever want to talk about the Housewives or Summer House, I’m your girl!
When you need “Me Time,” what are your favorite escapes?
My “me time” is 6:00 am every day at Infinity Fitness in Noroton Heights (Darien). Nothing is more therapeutic to me than a good sweat session. But you can also regularly find me at the New Canaan Library checking out a book as I always have a good psychological thriller on hand.
What’s the best advice you’ve received from another mom?
Everything is a phase. You’ve got to play the long game…
Any words of wisdom?
Life is too short not to order the pasta!
