Meet Dr. Sarah Lacarrubba, a mother of two boys who practiced family medicine in Manhattan and Westchester County before transitioning to medical aesthetics. Looking for a “coastal town with a strong sense of community,” she and her family moved to Darien in late 2020 after living in Bronxville, NY. Dr. Sarah recently opened Skin by Sarah Medical, a medispa located inside the Andrew Stefanou Salon in Darien. Her focus is to “enhance each person’s natural beauty.” Learn more about Dr. Sarah and how she switched careers to pursue her passion.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
2 boys! Dean is 5 and Grant is 3
What brought you and your family to town?
Prior to the pandemic, we had been trying to pick a town to raise our boys. We wanted a coastal town with a strong sense of community and plenty of outdoor activities for our boys. Once the pandemic hit, we decided it was the perfect time to make the transition from Bronxville, NY to Darien in October 2020.
What’s your favorite aspect about being part of the community?
Seeing friends and familiar faces all around town!
What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?
Summer family beach nights at Pear Tree.
Can you please tell us a bit about your path to opening Skin by Sarah Medical?
I’ve always had a passion for skin, and had been practicing aesthetic medicine on the side for the last few years. I practiced in the urgent care field in NYC for the last 8 years. In the very early months of the pandemic, I decided to take some time away to reassess. It was then that I decided to focus on my passion full time, and Skin by Sarah Medical was born!
We understand you are located in the Andrew Stefanou Salon—another one of our favorite locales. How did you connect with the team there?
I cold called Andrew and Dee Stefanou, the owners of Andrew Stefanou Salon and Spa, and they kindly agreed to meet with me. We all connected on a deep level, agreed this would be a perfect fit, and the rest is history!
You offer a variety of services from injectables to stem cell micro needling. Can you share more about your skin treatments?
I offer a curated array of services including neurotoxin injections to smooth wrinkles, filler injections to volumize the face, stem cell microneedling “facial” to regenerate the skin, and LipoDissolve injections to help with stubborn chin fat. Newest treatments include the Aquagold facial, a unique treatment that combines the effects of botox and HA gels to plump skin and minimize pores, and Sculptra injections, a long-lasting facial volumizing treatment that encourages your body to rebuild lost collagen.
For those new to the medispa setting, what can someone expect during their treatment? We first sit down together and talk about their individual skin concerns. Then we formulate a treatment plan, taking into account timing, expectations, and, of course, budget. I like to always be very straightforward with my patients on cost, as this is an important aspect of treatment that sometimes is overlooked.

How do you unwind when you need some “me time?”
