MEET A MOM— Maureen Sullivan | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Meet Maureen Sullivan, or as her family & friends call her, Mo, a quintessential “people person” who loves to strike up a convo and make connections with anyone she meets. Mo works in real estate and lives in Rowayton with her husband, baby, and dog. You might see her out for a run on Bell Island, at the Rowayton dog park with her black lab, Seger, or on the paddle courts working up a sweat. Learn more about Mo and how she juggles it all!

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
One 5-month-old, a daughter named June. And I have a 3-year-old black lab, Seger, who thinks he’s a baby.

What brought you and your family to town?
We were living in NYC when covid hit and decided not to renew our lease. My husband grew up in Westport, and I have siblings who had already moved out here, so we were drawn to this area.

What’s your favorite aspect about being part of the community?
I love the social scene, playing paddle with friends, happy hour at Bayley beach, Sunday brunch at Rowayton Seafood, riding bikes around town.

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?
We love taking our boat out on the long island sound! Baby & dog included.

Tell us about your path to real estate. Why did you decide to get into real estate?
I started my career in advertising, working for one of the top firms globally. But when we moved out to the suburbs and I got pregnant, I knew I wanted to find a better balance of being able to stay home and raise a family. Finding our own home was such a thrilling experience for me, that I decided to explore that as a career path. And so, I got my real estate license, met with some people in the industry who I looked up to for advice, and joined a firm.

What is the best or most rewarding part of your job?
Making people happy! Finding or selling someone’s home is such a personal process. I am truly grateful to my clients and friends when they put their trust in me and bring me along that journey with them.

What is one thing you hear most often from families you work with?
This market is terrible! Haha And truly, it is for buyers.  It’s especially daunting to buy your first home at such an inflated price. But, when you are looking for a home, you need to treat it as a place where you will raise a family and watch your kids grow, that is a very different thing from purchasing an investment property.

We understand real estate is not your average 9-5 job. How do you juggle work and motherhood?
It takes a village. I wouldn’t be able to do it alone, but I have an incredible partner in my husband, we have amazing grandparents who love to help, and a part-time nanny who we adore. But even still, I find myself taking my daughter to inspections, cooking dinner while strategizing with a client, and missing out on family time to take clients to showings. But I’m driven and ambitious and I hope I will inspire my daughter to work hard at the things she cares about when she grows up.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
“Just roll with it.” Life isn’t perfect. Sometimes everything is off schedule, the house is a mess, the rules go out the window, and you just gotta go with the flow.

How do you unwind when you need some “me time?”
A cold glass of red wine, sushi, and an episode of House of Dragons.

Any words of wisdom?
Life happens in the in-between. Don’t forget to put your phone down every once in a while, and breathe it all in (myself included)!
