Meet Anne! | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Welcome to your Meet a Mom Interview!
Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ll always be a Midwesterner at heart, as well as a Bengals fan. 🙂

How long have you lived in New Canaan? How many kids and their age(s)?
We moved here 4 years ago. I have three beautiful girls: 5 ½, 4, and 18 months.

Favorite things to do with your kids in general or in town?
Visiting farms is a really fun fall tradition. We enjoy Stamford Nature Center and Silverman Farm in Easton. If we can’t take a day trip, we go to New Canaan Nature Center where there are plenty of animals to see (our favorite are the resident goats!). Their annual Fall Fair in October is not to be missed!

Whats your favorite restaurant in town for a family date? A night out with friends? Why?
Cherry Street East Café is a family fave on the weekends. The staff is really nice and welcoming. My go-to night out is Sole – great ambiance and extensive menu (though I always order the same thing!).

What is your favorite kid-friendly recipe?
We are bakers in my house. The kids put on their aprons and do the measuring, pouring, and mixing, then we watch it bake in the oven. We often make chocolate chip cookies for friends. Sorry – our recipe is top secret!

What is your local go-to store for childrens clothes? Shoes? Furniture? Yourself?
Whenever I need a nice gift, I head to That Personal Touch, a fabulous engraving shop owned by a lovely local family. She LaLa is another wonderful store with beautifully colorful accessories, clothes and gifts.

What are your favorite events in New Canaan?
There are so many fantastic events here! Memorial Day Parade, 4th of July Fireworks, Nature Center Fall Fair, Christmas tree lighting at Kiwanis, caroling on God’s Acre.

What has been the most difficult age with your children to date? What helped you overcome the challenges at that time?
I think 3 years old is hard because although they can talk, they are also becoming independent, so cannot fully communicate their thoughts and feelings. They also drop a nap around 3, which can be brutal. Keep in mind, my girls are young, so when they are teenagers I may edit my answer!!

What do you most value in your friends?
I have made wonderful friends in New Canaan. I most value their honesty, humor, support and acceptance. Our families live far away (Florida and England), and we feel very lucky to have such a strong support network here. Everyone is different, and the best friends do not judge even if they do not always understand!

Anything else you want to add? Feel free to include a business venture, involvement in local organizations, etc.
I’m a certified pre- and postnatal fitness instructor, and I created Stroller Pump, an outdoor stroller fitness program for moms in New Canaan. It is a really fun way to get back into shape after having a baby and meet other local moms.
