Meet Elizabeth! | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Where are you from originally?
Greenwich, Connecticut and Durham, North Carolina.  I was born in Greenwich and lived in Durham from 7th – 12th grade.

How long have you lived in New Canaan? How many kids and their age(s)?
I’ve lived here 21 years and have 3 children ages 17, 19 and 22.

Favorite things to do with your kids in general or in town?
In the summer we particularly enjoy going to town for ice cream and playing family golf.

Whats your favorite restaurant in town for a family date? A night out with friends? Why?
Our favorite family restaurant is Spiga because our children love the menu and lively atmosphere.  For a night out with friends, we love the food and quiet setting at Baldanza.

What is your favorite kid-friendly recipe?
Chicken fajitas with sautéed peppers and onions is everyone’s favorite.

What is your local go-to store for childrens clothes? Shoes? Furniture? Yourself?
Go-to store for children’s clothes is Groove, for shoes it’s Shoes ‘n’ More, for furniture we like Design Solutions and for me I start with She la la and go from there.  I like all the stores!

What are your favorite events in New Canaan?
We love Waveny’s 4th of July fireworks and the annual sidewalk sale.

What has been the most difficult age with your children to date? What helped you overcome the challenges at that time?
I think middle school years were the most difficult for us because at that age our children began to narrow their activities to those they found most comfortable.  We encouraged them to keep trying new things.  Every season and every school year presented an opportunity to try something new and that carried on through high school.

What is one piece of advice you would pass along to other moms?
Stay calm, and carry on!

What was your career before having children?
I have an MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and I was a credit card marketing director for MasterCard, First Data and American Express.

Anything else you want to add? Feel free to include a business venture, involvement in local organizations, etc.
Locally I’ve been on the board of The New Canaan Community Foundation, an active school volunteer and currently I serve on the board of The Country Club of New Canaan.
I love my business venture!  For twenty years I have been helping families select artists to paint their children’s portraits. I represent 150 artists who work in a variety of styles and offer a wide range of prices. From time to time, Little Whitney on Elm Street shows sample portraits by my artists.
