Happy New Year New Canaan Moms!

My name is Kristen and I’ve lived in New Canaan for 7 years but I’m originally from Fayetteville, NY. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and we have two children, a daughter (7) and a son (3).  I love living in such a great town where family truly is the focus.   It’s been an incredible experience to raise our kids in a place where there are so many amazing families.   Being a stay at home mom is challenging, rewarding, and hilarious all at the same time and it’s great to laugh with friends over the trials and tribulations of motherhood!

When I’m not with my children, I try to find ways to both relax and rejuvenate.   I love catching a Zumba class at NEAD or Oxygen to dance. It’s an exhilarating work out and leaves me feeling so happy.   I also find a sense of calm and happiness when painting which is a new endeavor of mine.  It’s become a favorite outlet that I thoroughly enjoy.   It’s also a nice bonus when others appreciate and enjoy my work. You can view some of my pieces at The Summer House in New Canaan or find me on Instagram @k.plumbart.

As we just finished the holiday season, I enjoyed sharing my family traditions that I remember as a kid with my own children.   Having young kids really brings back the magic of Christmas.   We spent many weekends baking cookies and making a serious mess of the kitchen. It’s such a fun, yummy, and cozy way to spend quality time with my kids during the holiday season.

Speaking of eating, we’re always getting take out from Tequila Mockingbird as we’re big fans of their guacamole and chips. When it comes to a night out with girlfriends or with my husband, my “go to” restaurant is always South End.   Another family favorite during the warm weather months is to get sandwiches and have a fun picnic at Irwin Park.

One thing most people don’t know about me is that I played tennis in college.   I absolutely love the sport and will make time in the New Year to play more. Heading to the U.S. Open has always been my favorite way to end the summer since I was a child.

Finally, I chose this school year to volunteer my time as a Daisy Girl Scout troop leader along with three amazing moms.   It’s been fun teaching these young girls the value of friendship, respect, and how to be a caring and considerate citizen.   All the best to you and your families in the New Year!
