Meet Kristin! | New Canaan & Darien Moms

Where are you from originally?

I grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey

What made you choose New Canaan over other towns in the area? How long have you lived in New Canaan?

I drove up from New Jersey at Christmas to meet Steve’s family. I was 23 (eek) and was in awe of how beautiful New Canaan was, the rock walls, Elm Street and God’s acre. I fell in love with it. We met in Colorado prior to this and after we married in 99 and lived out there awhile, we decided to move back east.  I had no doubt I wanted to raise my family in New Canaan. We have been here 18 years now.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

We have 3 kids (daughter) Riley 16 Junior at NCHS, Mack 14 8th grader, and Bo 11 5th grader both at Saxe

What are your favorite things to do with your kids in general or in town this time of year?

Our favorite thing to do in New Canaan during a snowday is, of course, sleep in!  We live in town and we watch kids ski down our street which has a huge hill. Our youngest always sleds at South School.

What are your favorite events or favorite season in New Canaan and why?

Our favorite season in NC is definitely the fall. We are huge RAMS fans. Our boys play Youth football and we never miss a Varsity game! If you have not spent a Thanksgiving at the Turkey Bowl, you are missing out. The whole town is there!

Three things in New Canaan that you can’t live without & What can’t your kids live without?:

Three things in New Canaan we can’t live without are the Waveny trails, Walter Stewarts Market and Weed and Duryea.
Three things my kids can’t live without are Zumbachs Coffee (my daughter Riley works there say hi to her), Tony’s Deli and Mackenzie’s.

Which are your favorite spots for beauty and pampering? OR What’s the best way to relax and unwind in New Canaan or Darien?

Beauty Pampering: I LOVE Nordic EDGE at Halo Fitness for Cryotherapy. If my face is puffy, I get Cryo facials. It is five minutes where you feel like you are skiing down a slope really slow. The glow I have after is amazing.
Best way to relax and unwind in New Canaan. Honestly is summer time on our front porch, We live in town and our friends know if we are out there to just come over!

What’s your favorite restaurant in town for a family date? Night out with friends? Romantic evening? Why?

Best place for a night out with friends is UNCORKED. We have a tradition with our friends to always meet there the day before any major holiday for lunch and drinks!
Best place for a date is ELM.  Food is divine and we love to sit at the bar. They always have an amazing 80’s movie on the big screen. Last time was can’t buy me love!  Get the Kale Salad with Cherries and Pistachios!

What is your favorite kid-friendly recipe?

My kids are older now but a family favorite for years is Cook’s Illustrated 4 cheese Baked Pasta. It is so decadent!

What are a few of the most recent things you’ve pinned on Pinterest and/or who do you follow on Instagram?

Instagram: Whom do I follow? Love Julia Hengel, half baked harvest, and our instagram bozilife

Best Mom Advice?
Don’t overschedule and overcommit. My kids have always only done one sport or activity a season.  They get burned out so easily and need downtime. It’s really ok to say no!

What was your career before having children?

My first job out of college was opening a restaurant with my husband Steve in downtown Denver.

What has been the most difficult age with your children to date? What helped you overcome the challenges at that time?

Ahhh, the most age difficult with my children. I remember when my now 14 year old was 3 and he got up at the crack of sin (5am) for years and I thought there was nothing worse.  I could not function!
Every year brings new challenges. My daughter is driving now and when she pulls out of the driveway…I worry constantly.   I would like to freeze time. Having both of my boys at Saxe has been super special and we are about to look at colleges. Gulp! Treasure every moment because it does go so FAST!

Having Teenagers, what do you think about the whole later start initiative?
I completely support it. The families with young children in town need to understand that starting in 7th grade, they are getting up in the between 6 and 6:30 for a 7:30 first period class. It is 6 years of this! These growing bodies need more sleep. My junior and my 8th grader both fall asleep after school some days. I feel awful waking them up when they sleep through their alarm. Please support the mom’s who are pushing to make this happen!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

Yes! I’m a real estate agent in town at Houlihan Lawrence  but most recently I am Co-Founder of a lifestyle brand called Bozi. My husband and I after years in Colorado and in Weekapaug, RI set out to design the best four season ¼ zips and vests out there.  It is family effort, we are packing and shipping out of our house where our entire inventory is. You can see what the brand is all about at www.boziusa.com and follow us on instagram below!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

New Canaan is a really tight knit community.  Steve has so many friends he grew up with all raising families here. I love that we know so many people.  When we walk South Avenue, friends beep and yell at the window at us. When Mack and Bo walk home from school. They get shout outs from Riley’s friends driving.  It is the best feeling! It’s like a neighborhood watch! Launching a new business is major leap of faith. We have felt so much love and support for Bozi from everyone in town. Love NC!

Favorite hobbies?

My current obsession is my Peloton bike. I draw the shades and crank the class on our Beats Pill. The instructors are so empowering and I am constantly trying to hit Milestone Rides to get a shout out! Love Love it!
