The New Canaan Nature Center is offering some terrific after school programs starting after break!
Adventures in Nature Club- (grades 3-4)
If you like to get outside, explore the natural world, and have a love for animals, this club is for you! Derick Hips, Environmental Educator and Birthday Coordinator for the New Canaan Nature Center, will lead adventures into the great outdoors and provide a hands-on experience with live animals. We will have the opportunity to explore everything nature has to offer, by looking for wildlife, finding animal prints and signs, and interacting with our animals in our collection. Adventurers will meet every Thursday from 3:45-5:00 pm at the New Canaan nature Center.
Program runs Thursdays for 10 weeks starting January 12th, 2017 until March 23rd,2017 (We will not meet February 23rd) Cost: $30 per person member/ $35 non-member. Cost to register for all 10 weeks- $285 member/$350 non-member.
Young Naturalist Science Club- (grades 5-6)
If you are interested in science and the natural world, this is the club for you! Chris Hendershot, Director of Education Programs for the New Canaan Nature Center, is fascinated by the questions that arise when exploring outside. This club will offer hands-on experiences by conducting experiments, citizen science projects, and just trying new theories! We will learn about bird species and the principles of flight, study how plants defend themselves, and help our environmental team gather facts and data that will be useful for ongoing nature studies. Experience our “un-classroom” every Monday from 3:45-5:00pm at the nature center.
Program runs for 10 weeks starting January 9th 2017 until March 27th 2017 (we will not meet January 16th and February 20th) Cost: $30 per person member/$35 non-member. Cost to register for all 10 weeks- $285 member/$350 non-member.
Wildlife Exploration Club –(grades 7-8)
If you want hands-on wildlife experience with a professional naturalist, then the Wildlife Exploration Club is for YOU! Bill Flynn, Director of Animal Care with the New Canaan Nature Center, will demonstrate ALL he knows about the diverse habitats here at the Nature Center and teach hands-on skills with the Nature Center’s collection of animals. Students will get to help handle and care for the captive animals at the Nature Center. They will also be able to handle and study the native wild animals found in our ponds, fields, and forests. Join us on the trails and in our Animal Care Center every Wednesday from 2:45-4:00 pm!
