Summer Activities & Camp Guide 2024

The Ben Young All-Sports Camp is entering its 10th year, and the goal and mission remain the same. They want to create and foster an inclusive, welcoming, and positive environment that allows children of all ages, genders, and athletic abilities to come together, regardless of level of experience, and have fun. Activities range from traditional sports like basketball, soccer, and baseball, to kid-favorites like capture the flag, four-square, and relay races, to yard games like corn hole, tic-tac-toe, and Jenga. (There are even water games too!) Ultimately, though, this is just a small list of what is played, as every camper will take part in over fifteen different sports/games each week.

As fun as the games are, the staff is what makes this camp special. There are 75+ incredible high school and college counselors that are all highly charismatic, mature, nurturing, and responsible, and they each genuinely enjoy being with children. Additionally, a priority of the program is to always maintain a low counselor-camper ratio, as this contributes to wonderful relationships being made. (There are also four certified teachers on staff too.)

Background
Ben grew up in New Canaan and was very involved in the community. He then went to and graduated from Bucknell University where he was a 2-year Co-Captain of their Division I tennis team. This is now Ben’s 16th year at Saxe, and he absolutely loves being a 7th grade language arts teacher and member/advisor of numerous clubs and committees. Additionally, Ben is the proud Head Coach of the recent three-time state champion NCHS Boys Varsity Tennis Team.

MARITIME AQUARIUM

MARITIME ROWING CLUB SUMMER YOUTH LEARN-TO-ROW PROGRAMS

DATES: June 3 – August 23 // AGES: Elementary, middle school and high school students

Maritime Rowing Club’s Youth Learn to Row / Development Programs draw elementary, middle school, and high school-aged youth from all over Fairfield County and the surrounding area.  Our internationally known coaching staff offers an opportunity for all levels to develop their potential with solid rowing skills and team fundamentals.

No experience necessary, All skills levels are welcome! Sessions are always outdoors on the water, group size is limited, and all athletes learn to row in team and single-person boats. Emphasis is on water safety and rowing basics both on and off the water. Athletes improve strength, fitness, flexibility, mental toughness, and discipline.

Make new friends, enjoy being outdoors, and be part of a great team!

THE RUSSIAN SCHOOL OF MATH (RSM) 
RSM is an award-winning, after-school math program for K-12 students. Named “among the top schools in the world” by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, the program helps children of all levels excel in mathematics.

This summer, RSM Stamford will be offering classes ranging from Kindergarten prep to high school (including geometry). Classes will meet twice a week for 6 weeks, July 1 – August 8.

SUZUKI MUSIC SCHOOLS

The Suzuki Music Schools are hosting three music camps this summer! The Summer Camp, for strings, piano, guitar and flute, is for students ages 6 to 12 who are receiving weekly private instruction on their instrument. Activities include group classes, fiddle, music theory, world music, yoga and other social activities!

 The Chamber Camp is a one to two week camp for musicians with basic to strong reading skills. Students will learn the art of playing with others and perform in a final concert. The Audition Camp is a week-long camp for students auditioning for anything, from youth orchestras to conservatories. It will include a mixture of performance practice, peer review, conductor consultations and videoed audition review.

TIM MOREHOUSE FENCING CLUB
The Tim Morehouse Fencing Club summer camps are a great way for children from the Stamford area to learn about fencing while having fun at the same time. With experienced coaches and a safe environment, these camps provide an excellent opportunity for kids to develop their skills while making new friends. Moms who have enrolled their children at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club have loved the experience and raved about the impact the sport of fencing has had on their children!

The club is led by Olympic fencer and coach Tim Morehouse, who has over 20 years of experience in the sport. He and his team of coaches provide top-notch instruction in all three weapons (foil, epee, and saber), footwork drills, strategy, and mental training. With a focus on safety, respect for others, and having fun while learning the sport of fencing, moms can be sure that their children are in good hands at Tim Morehouse Fencing Club camps.
