The ultimate furry FUN-raiser evolves with new activities, giveaways, and more event features to entertain the whole family.
Pet Pantry Warehouse of New Canaan, located at 21 Grove Street, will host the 9th Annual New Canaan Dog Days of Summer on Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. It’s Pet Pantry’s fourth consecutive year hosting the “ultimate FUN-raiser for pet lovers and the whole family” at the New Canaan location. Admission is FREE and all event proceeds will support local pet rescue organizations, Adopt-a-Dog and Strays and Others. Last year the event raised $10,000 in proceeds that was split between both beneficiary organizations.
The event continues to evolve annually and will feature the addition of “The Doggie Fun Zone” this year. The fastest dog to run the obstacle course will receive a one year’s supply of Open Farm dog food (openfarmpet.com). A wildlife exhibition presented by The New Canaan Nature Center as well as a K9 Demonstration by the New Canaan Police Department are also new additions this year. On top of these new features, Pet Pantry is bringing back fun elements from prior years. This year’s highlights will include the signature “Pet Pantry Bone Bar” filled with top of the line dog treats, chews, and cookies; on-site “adoptions” where well trained balloon dogs walk politely on a faux leash and can be adopted for a $15 donation; and the New Canaan Dog Days Scavenger Hunt, where families work together to figure out clues and complete the hunt. Anyone that solves all of the clues can select a reward from a prize-filled table packed with pet toys and supplies.
Attendees will also enjoy a full afternoon of activities, entertaining classes, contests, exhibitors giveaways, Q&A with professional trainers available for behavioral questions, a meet-and-greet with onsite veterinarians, family and pet portraits with Venture Photography, caricature drawings, art activities for kids including a build your own Birdhouse sponsored by Weed & Duryea and a DJ to keep it festive. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Event Parking available at the New Canaan Metro-North Railroad Station, 198 Elm Street.
“Our hope is to continue to provide this all-inclusive community event for years to come. We are grateful for the work that our local pet rescue organizations do and we’re happy to use this event to show our support” said Adam Jacobson, Executive Vice President at Pet Pantry Warehouse. Presenting sponsors as of the date of this release include Open Farm, New Canaan Veterinary Hospital, Weed & Duryea, and Gregg’s Garden Center and Landscaping. This year’s media sponsor is Serendipity magazine. Business sponsors include Cornell University Veterinary Specialist and Bankwell. Gold sponsors include Merrick, Petcurean, and Primal. About Adopt-A-Dog
Adopt-A-Dog is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission has been to Save, Socialize and Secure Loving Homes for Unwanted or Abandoned Dogs and Cats. Adopt-A-Dog has been serving the tri-state area and beyond for over three decades.
About Strays & Others
Strays and Others is a nonprofit, no-kill, all volunteer-run animal welfare rescue agency based in Fairfield County, Connecticut. One of the oldest in the county, it was founded in 1985 and has provided medical care, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and shelter for thousands of animals rescued from homelessness.
About Pet Pantry Warehouse
The history of the Pet Pantry Warehouse began in 1945 with World War II Army Air Forces servicemen, Mort Davis and Jac Cohen. The pair formed their alliance over a British puppy adopted by Davis while stationed in wartime England. After accomplishing a stateside transfer for the lucky pup, the two remained friends, joining forces in the pet food business. Davis passed away in the late ‘60s, but Cohen soldiered on with their enterprise through 1995, when the business was purchased by Barry Jacobson and his sons Adam and Ari, who run the business today. When the business was re-conceived in 1995, the large warehouse space which was home to the original Pet Pantry was converted into a more modern shopping experience and a new business model was born.
The success of the reformatted Greenwich location paved the way for additional locations in Rye, NY in 2006, Larchmont, NY, in 2011. The fourth location in New Canaan, CT, opened in late 2013 along with another store in neighboring Wilton, CT. The options for a convenient local shopping experience continue to grow with additional stores in Riverside, CT, and Scarsdale, NY as well as our 7th store located at 1876 Blackrock Turnpike in Fairfield, CT set to open, Summer 2018.
As a local, family run business we understand the importance of giving back to the communities in which we operate. Over the years we have been extremely active in support of local and surrounding communities we serve by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of money, goods, and services. In addition to the support we give to Adopt-A-Dog, Cat Assistance, Greyhound Rescue, The Good Dog Foundation, Stray’s and Others, as well as Pet Rescue; We regularly give back to local schools, local religious institutions, local charities, and others. We also provide donations to local Police, Fire, & Ambulatory services, as well as local sports teams.
