Yes, LocalMoms, you too can create a really special Valentine’s Day for your families! We all need a little extra love this year. And just a single heart shaped cookie cutter goes a long way! Truth be told, I have several heart shaped cutters from large to small and even crinkle cut, but whatever you’ve got, just start making shapes. Use your imagination and have fun! Here are few quick tips and ideas:
- To make crudités or everyday veggies more inviting, cut them into heart shapes –
Cucumbers
Red peppers
Watermelon radishes
Tomatoes
Pita chips
- Cookies, brownies, ice cream bars are also perfect for making shapes. If you’re too busy and don’t have time to bake, use store bought treats and make your own shapes or treats –
Buy frosted cupcakes and dust with Valentine’s sprinkles
Cut ice cream sandwiches into heart shapes and roll the edges in sprinkles
Strawberry, chocolate or vanilla ice cream topped with chopped strawberries and raspberries is festive
Make ice cubes with pomegranate seeds for your sparkling pink lemonade or special drink
Dip pretzels in white chocolate or candy melts and add sprinkles
Chocolate and conversation heart candies are synonymous with this holiday, yet there are all sorts of candies and goodies under the sun available in pinks, reds and whites. Arrange in bowls or clear vases and let your kids enjoy.
- Thoughtful little gifts are the way to your Valentine’s heart! It doesn’t all have to be Valentine’s related, but the packaging can be. Boy moms can relate! Small cellophane bags or tissue paper wrapped with a pretty ribbon is a great way to bring in pink, red and white colors. From belts to small toys, books, food, candy, barrettes, hockey pucks – you name it – these small thoughtful gestures will put a smile on your special loves.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
