7:00 p.m., Wednesday, 11/20 @ the Darien Library. Dr. Turrisi is from Penn State University Department of Biobehavioral Health and Prevention Research and the author of A Parent Handbook for Talking with Students About Alcohol.
Parents want to protect their children and teach them EVERYTHING needed to be safe and how to function when they leave home: how to do laundry; how to budget time and money; how to drive a car; how to navigate relationships. What NOT to teach your teen? How to Drink.
Dr. Turrisi will share his research concerning the misconception that “teaching” teens how to drink prepares them for college and helps them learn to drink more responsibly. He will explain why talking to your teen about alcohol use is the most effective strategy to moderate drinking. His publication (A Parent Handbook for Talking with Students About Alcohol) will be given to program attendees. Registration is encouraged: www.ywcadn.org/drinkingprevention.
