Leaders from the Young Women’s League of New Canaan and the Children’s Connection met recently to discuss the future of their new Trauma Care Clinic. Children’s Connection, a part of the Human Services Council, works with children and families of children (newborn-18Y) that have made disclosures regarding sexual or severe physical abuse who live, work or were victimized in the towns of New Canaan, Norwalk, Wilton and Westport. The organization is currently able to provide bilingual trauma counseling in-house to victims of abuse and their families, but lack the appropriate space to do so. YWL funding will pay for construction of two trauma counseling offices with a waiting room, books, workbooks, therapeutic toys and tools, as well as appropriate furnishings for their clients.
“The Children’s Connection provides invaluable services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community and the Young Women’s League is proud to be part of this project. We hope this renovation will provide a safe and comfortable space for clients as they move forward towards recovery and justice.” said YWL President Jill Tobin
Children’s Connection was created to increase awareness and understanding of child abuse in the community while supporting those directly affected by this horrible crime. As a fully accredited Children’s Advocacy Center, they provide a private, child-friendly setting that is physically and emotionally safe as victims navigate abuse investigations.
