DESCRIPTION: Toddlertime offers a flexible, drop off summer camp for campers turning two by December of the summer enrolled until they enter kindergarten. We offer a low camper to counselor ratio in a safe and nurturing environment led by experienced early childhood professionals trained in CPR and First Aid. Our summer program is rich in exploration, imagination and creativity. You won’t find boring old themes such as “Under the Sea”. Instead, our themes are intentionally open-ended to allow campers to enjoy play without an end goal in mind and to give the counselors freedom to tailor it towards the interest of their group.

DARIEN YOUTH COMMISSION SUMMER CAMP

DESCRIPTION: The DYC sponsors the Town Camp program, offering two, three-week day camps. Three sites based on grade level: Kids entering grade 1 will go to Camp Ox Ridge @ Ox Ridge School; kids entering grades 2 & 3 will go to Camp Ox Ridge 2/3 @ Ox Ridge School; kids entering grades 4, 5 & 6 will go to Camp Mather @ Holmes School. Camps run daily from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with an Early Drop-Off option from 8:00 a.m.). Promoted as a “Total Day Camp Experience” the summer camp program includes a variety of sports, arts & crafts, field trips and entertainers. Resident registration begins February 4, 2019; non-resident registration begins April 29, 2019. Registration deadline May 28, 2019.
MSSAP (Middle School Summer Activity Program– Camp Menace)
For students entering grades 7, 8 & 9, this program runs Monday’s through Thursday’s weekly. Students may sign up weekly or for all 6 weeks at an adjusted fee. DESCRIPTION: Summer Fun is a 2-hour drop-off program consisting of free-play, story and music time, an art project and snack in a classroom setting. Children will learn new songs, create fun works of art and make lots of new friends in a class of up to eight students. Two enthusiastic and caring teachers lead the classes that are held at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk office at 49 Old Kings Highway North in Darien. The combination of paddle boards and kayaks make it possible for us to cover a lot of ‘ground’, even get to the islands! We’ll engage in a wide variety of games that develop confidence, coordination, and creativity – keeping campers entertained, challenged and feeling successful all week long!
“SUP Dawgs” – Paddle Boarding
These paddlers get to experience all of our demo boards, even the racing ones! They’ll really learn about the sport and develop the finesse and technique that makes it exhilarating – from pivot turns, to prone paddling, to headstands and other shenanigans. Some of them have grown up to be dockhands and counselors themselves!
Paddlers learn through games and activities such as relays, board/boat swapping, capsizes and rescues, jousting, piano keys… we’ve scores of creative ways to teach! By the end of the week, they’ll be masterfully maneuvering in and out of pilings, under bridges, around buoys and boats, paddling straight, and keeping up with their mates. as we explore the river and sound.
