DESCRIPTION: Our camp programs aim to get children and youth unplugged from indoor activities through exciting, hands-on explorations in the outdoors. Our action-packed Summer Camp emphasizes fun experiences that give children an opportunity to simply “be a kid” while exploring the marvels of nature and making friends. Weekly themes inspire young adventurers at age-appropriate levels as they learn and play amidst our 40 acres of ponds, fields, and forest. Budding scientists uncover the mysteries of the natural world while adventure-seekers learn wilderness skills and experience the exhilaration of the great outdoors! DESCRIPTION: Toddlertime offers a flexible, drop off sum­mer camp for campers turning two by December of the summer enrolled until they enter kindergarten. We offer a low camper to counselor ratio in a safe and nurturing environment led by experienced early childhood professionals trained in CPR and First Aid. Our summer program is rich in exploration, imagination and creativity.  You won’t find boring old themes such as “Under the Sea”. Instead, our themes are intentionally open-ended to allow campers to enjoy play without an end goal in mind and to give the counselors freedom to tailor it towards the interest of their group.

DESCRIPTION: Summer is the time to explore, learn and grow.  Our well-rounded program encourages campers to build friendships and develop an appreciation for nature and science. Indoor and outdoor activities create wonderful opportunities for fun and exploration. Each week a different nature inspired theme reflects our commitment to the natural world around us.

Action packed days help children to develop their independence while having fun and discovering nature. Activities include:  nature hikes, games, stories, songs, water day, visits with our zoo room animals, and Friday family presentations! Tadpoles, Ladybugs, Bumblebees and Dragonflies (children ages 2-8), enjoy all of the activities at the Darien Nature Center.

DARIEN YOUTH COMMISSION SUMMER CAMP

DATES: Session 1: June 24-July 12 (No camp July 4th) | Session 2: July 15-August 1

AGES: Children Entering Grades 1-6

DESCRIPTION: The DYC sponsors the Town Camp program, offering two, three-week day camps. Three sites based on grade level: Kids entering grade 1 will go to Camp Ox Ridge @ Ox Ridge School; kids entering grades 2 & 3 will go to Camp Ox Ridge 2/3 @ Ox Ridge School; kids entering grades 4, 5 & 6 will go to Camp Mather @ Holmes School. Camps run daily from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with an Early Drop-Off option from 8:00 a.m.). Promoted as a “Total Day Camp Experience” the summer camp program includes a variety of sports, arts & crafts, field trips and entertainers. Resident registration begins February 4, 2019; non-resident registration begins April 29, 2019. Registration deadline May 28, 2019.

 

MSSAP (Middle School Summer Activity Program– Camp Menace)

For students entering grades 7, 8 & 9, this program runs Monday’s through Thursday’s weekly.  Students may sign up weekly or for all 6 weeks at an adjusted fee.  There is a fee for some field trips which must be paid on the day of the trip.  (Click here to view the 2017 MSSAP calendar to better understand the program activities.)  Resident registration begins early March 5; non-resident registration begins April 30.

DATES: The program begins in June 2019 and meets for 11 weeks. There will be 3 3-week sessions and 1 2-week session.

AGES/TIMES: To be eligible, children must turn 2 before the start of the program. Families can also enroll their 3-year-olds who haven’t yet attended a 3’s program.

DESCRIPTION: Summer Fun is a 2-hour drop-off program consisting of free-play, story and music time, an art project and snack in a classroom setting. Children will learn new songs, create fun works of art and make lots of new friends in a class of up to eight students. Two enthusiastic and caring teachers lead the classes that are held at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk office at 49 Old Kings Highway North in Darien. Families can enroll their Toddlers for 1, 2, or 3 days per week. The program is open to the public.

“Paddle Dudes” (Guys & Gals!) – Paddle Boarding and Kayaking

The combination of paddle boards and kayaks make it possible for us to cover a lot of ‘ground’, even get to the islands! We’ll engage in a wide variety of games that develop confidence, coordination, and creativity – keeping campers entertained, challenged and feeling successful all week long!

“SUP Dawgs” – Paddle Boarding

These paddlers get to experience all of our demo boards, even the racing ones! They’ll really learn about the sport and develop the finesse and technique that makes it exhilarating – from pivot turns, to prone paddling, to headstands and other shenanigans. Some of them have grown up to be dockhands and counselors themselves!

Paddlers learn through games and activities such as relays, board/boat swapping, capsizes and rescues, jousting, piano keys… we’ve scores of creative ways to teach! By the end of the week, they’ll be masterfully maneuvering in and out of pilings, under bridges, around buoys and boats, paddling straight, and keeping up with their mates. as we explore the river and sound.
