Spring has a special place in our hearts. Here are five reasons we LOVE the Spring season.
1. Flowers. Who doesn’t love a beautiful Spring bouquet and better yet, seeing those first bulbs start to grow?! We can’t resist perusing the farmer’s markets or grocery aisles for those perfect Spring flowers to put on display. These beautiful arrangements to the left are from Palmers Market! If you’re in New Canaan head to Walter Stewart’s. For something custom, try Stems + Co in Rowayton.
2. Getting Outside. When you’re feeling that winter cabin fever and the first hints of Spring start to arrive it is quite literally a breath of fresh air. Spring is full of new adventures for the family. Hiking, running, seeking out the cherry blossoms or tulips, baby animals, picnics. On May 6th check out the Cherry Blossom Festival SAKURA MATSURI @ Mead Memorial Park in New Canaan. The event features live music, dance performances, and activities both for adults and children. Presented by the Japan Society of Fairfield County. Feel like exercising? Do the perimeter at Waveny or Irwin park. Or run the Pear Tree Point peninsula in Darien. If it takes place outside, grab the family and GO! Have you tried geocaching? Learn more about it here. We also like this article on how to get started.
3. Spring Cleaning. Nothing feels better than getting the house organized. Spring cleaning can feel like a daunting task but it feels AMAZING once you’re done. Hint: focus on tackling one little project at a time. Before you know it that mudroom will be clear of winter gear and ready for spring!
If you’re looking for a place to donate your cleared out items, Person 2 Person is in both Darien (St. Luke’s Parish) and New Canaan. There is a drop off location at St. Aloysius. It’s located in the church parking lot. You’ll see a storage unit called Mother Teresa’s Closet and you can leave your items there.
4. Fashion. Breezy Spring layers, pastel colors, dresses, resort wear. Transitioning to a Spring wardrobe has never felt better. See our recent article on how to go from slush to sunshine. Also find out what’s inspiring one of our spring “Meet a Moms,” Stephanie Trotta! She’s a popular local influencer and the fashion visionary behind The Girl Guide.
5. Food & Farmers Markets. Asparagus, apricots, avocados, spring onions, chives, arugula, mango, peas. So many delicious foods in season, and we’re eating them up! A sure sign that spring has sprung is the fresh arrival of Mister Spears Jumbo Asparagus at Walter Stewart’s! They are consistently stocked with vibrant delicious seasonal produce.
The New Canaan Farmers Market will open April 28th and will run through December 15th. The Rowayton Farmer’s Market will open May 25th and the Darien Farmer’s Market will open June 6th. All dates will be noted on our calendar.
