Shorter Session Camps: A Great Way To Try Something New This Summer
Whether you’re still looking to fill in gaps for this summer or exploring doing sleepaway camp for the first time next summer, shorter “session” camp options or other alternatives to a traditional summer-long stint can be a great idea. In fact, it’s something that more families are exploring. “The landscape of sleepaway camps has changed over the last ten to twenty years. Instead of focusing on one camp for a full summer, more families are now looking for a collection of experiences for their children,” says TLMN camp advisor Matt Candel.
The shorter sessions are also a great introduction for “newbie” campers who have a few weeks to get through the initial stress of being away from home for the first time combined with the opportunity to experience the activities, joy, and new friendships camps offer. When your camp rookies have an amazing session (which they almost always do!) they will be excited to sign up for the longer haul next year.

Motherhood is a lot, and it’s a lot from the moment you give birth until…forever. The mental load, the physical exertion and the constant toggling between work (whether paid or unpaid) and parenting are all relentless. “When I sit with moms who are fried, I see the same pattern over and over again—what I think of as the “burnout trifecta”: depersonalization, exhaustion, and a low sense of personal accomplishment,” says Dr. Jennifer Okwerekwu, a Harvard-trained reproductive psychiatrist who is also a mom of two. We asked her to share more about burnout: how you can tell if you have it, why not to ignore it, how to prevent and, and most importantly, how to heal if you’re suffering from burnout.

How to Build Resilience in Kids!
Life isn’t easy, and as parents, one of our biggest priorities is to raise kids that can bounce back from disappointments big and small. To answer this question, we spoke to developmental psychologist Aliza Pressman, host of the Raising Good Humans podcast, which has featured women like Jessica Alba, Eve Rodsky, Dr. Samantha Boardman and others. “If you can’t bounce back in the face of a challenge, your life becomes so much less meaningful and harder to bear.
